I was always amazed by children’s way of learning! I had the pleasure of working with different age groups, teaching kids science in a fun way (Yes! It’s possible!), and helping them with their schoolwork. I’ve heard before that children’s brains are like sponges, noticed it in my classes, but I never imagined how astonishing it’s going to be to watch my own kids! I could imagine that it must be wonderful if a child becomes bilingual but I kind of thought they just listen to a language and then just speak it perfectly. There might be a teeny-tiny bit of truth in it, but it is actually hard work involved (mostly for parents!).
We moved to the United Kingdom from Poland 6 years ago. We had our baby here and then, as a first-time mum I panicked a little bit – should I speak to him in Polish, or maybe both Polish and English? What if he won’t understand the ladies at the nursery? What if he won’t know how to communicate with his peers? But he has to be able to speak to his grandparents, aunts, and uncles! Should he be able to talk when he’s one? Two? How many words? In one language or both? I’m telling you, so many questions and concerns were popping into my head daily! That’s why I wanted to develop my knowledge about bilingualism and multilingualism. I was lost in books and different courses, and took part in symposiums and webinars. I’ve done it to simply know how to support our child in his language development, and as an effect: I became passionate about bilingualism and the way how children acquire languages in the environment we create for them.
I invite you to follow our journey. If you’re an expecting mother, already a parent, if you’re speaking one, two, or more languages, if you’re as confused as I was or if you’re confident with what you’re doing but you just love to develop your knowledge – I hope you’ll find it all here.
Feel welcome to join my newsletter, where I will be sharing with you ideas and resources to help you to support your child in his bilingual journey.
This is the perfect webpage for everyone who wishes to understand this topic. You realize so much its almost hard to argue with you (not that I personally would want toÖHaHa). You definitely put a brand new spin on a subject that has been written about for a long time. Great stuff, just great!
Thank you so much for such a kind comment!
